Here are some useful tips that makes the battery last longer on your Windows phone

Solution 1

Use battery saver

The simplest way to extend the life of the battery on your Windows phone is use battery saver.  

Steps to be followed  

Reduce the brightness of your screen

  • Click the start icon, then swipe over to all apps list.
  • From the apps list, select settings->system->display.
  • Turn off the Change brightness automatically when lighting changes feature, then check the brightness level. You can set the brightness level using the slider.

Use a dark background

Click Windows icon, select Settings->Personalization->Colors, and then select Dark from the all apps list.

Step 3

Set a shorter duration before the screen times out

Click Windows icon, select Settings->Personalization->Lock screen. Select the Screen times out aftercheck box, to change the time out duration of the screen.

Turn off the unused apps and features

 Turn off the apps and features which you are not using, as it help you extend the life of the battery on your Windows phone. 

Step 1

Optimize your background app

  • Save the battery life of your phone by choosing the selective apps that are okay to run in the background.
  • To see the list of apps and to see how much battery each one is using, Click Start Windows icon, then go to Settings, selectSystem->Battery->Battery usage by app.This will help you choose the list of apps you allow to run in the background.
  • Select any app from the list, then select any of these options Always allowed in background, Managed by Windows, or Never allowed in background.

Turn off location.

To turn off the location service, click Windows icon, then select Settings->Privacy->Location.

Turn off Bluetooth

To turn ON the Bluetooth on your Windows device, click Start, swipe over to the All apps list, then select Settings->Devices->Bluetooth.

Turn off NFC

To turn OFF NFC on your Mobile device, click Start, swipe over to the All apps list, then select Settings->Devices->NFC, and then turn off Tap to share option.

Change display settings

Changing the display settings from your phone will help you extend the life of the battery.

Reduce the brightness of the screen.

To reduce the brightness of the screen, click Windows or Start icon, swipe over to the All apps list, then select Settings->System->Display.

You can use the slider to set the brightness level of your screen. Disable the optionChange brightness automatically when lighting changes.

To use a dark background, select start, then swipe over to the All apps list, and then selectSettings>Personalization>Colors, then finally select Dark.

  • Select Start from your Windows, look into the All apps list, from the list of apps, select Settings->Personalization->Lock screen.

Turn off your screen during calls

Use the power button or any other button which will turn off your phone’s screen, if you are using the speaker phoneor a Bluetooth enabled device.

Turn off the viewfinder after you take a picture

  • Once you take a picture, turn off the viewfinder. You can turn it off by pressing the Back button, as it will help you exit the camera viewfinder.
  • You can also press the power button to put your phone to sleep.

Set a shorter time out duration for Glance screen or turn it off.

To turn off or to set a shorter time out duration for Glance screen, select start, then select Settings>Extras>Glance screenand then select the box to vary the time out duration or select Off.

Change sync settings

It is recommended to synchronize your phone which helps to increase the life of your battery.

Sync email less often

  • To synchronize email, select start->Settings->Accounts->Email & app accounts.
  • Select the account which you want to change, and then select Manage->Change mailbox sync settings
  • Under the optionDownload new email, choose a longer interval.

Sync contacts and calendars less often

  • To sync contacts and calendars, select start->Settings->Accounts->Email & app accounts.
  • Select the account that you need to change, and then select Manage>Change mailboxsync settings
  • Under the option Sync contacts and calendars, choose a longer interval.

Sync only the email, calendars, and contacts you want

  • You need not sync email, calendars, or contacts unless you want to. To sync email, calendars and the contacts you want, select start->Settings->Accounts->Email & app accounts.
  • Select the account that you need to change, and then select Manage>Change mailboxsync settings
  • Under Sync options, select Email, Calendar, or Contacts to turn them off.

Step 3

Limit what you pin to Start

Pin your favorite apps and features to Start in order to use them quickly and efficiently. The life of the battery may go down, if your computer or Windows phone has more applications that works only with internet.

Upload only the pictures you want to keep

  • Uploading the pictures only that you want keep on your device will help you save the powerand saves your time, later when you want to sort your pictures in OneDrive.
  • Go to Settings->Devices->Default camera->Manage OneDriveupload settings, to turn off automatic uploads and to turn off the camera upload setting.

Other things you can do

  • Keep your phone plugged in until it’s fully charged

Go to Settings->System->Battery, to check the battery level of your Windows phone.

  • Restart your phone

Restarting your phone will help you solve problemsthat can shorten battery life.

  • If you don’t need Internet, cellular service, or other wireless communications, turn on airplane mode

Click Start, select Settings->Network & wireless->Airplane mode, and then turn on the airplane mode.
