How To Add Virtual Network Adapter Windows 10

The virtual network adapter Windows 10 can be added in two ways. Both the procedures are mentioned on this page.

Procedure 1 – Using Hyper-V Manager

Step 1

  • Open the Hyper-V Manager screen on your Windows 10 computer.

Step 2

  • Check if the network adapter is added to your Virtual Switch Manager.
  • To do so, click the Virtual Switch Manager option on the right-hand side of the screen.
  • This will open the Virtual Switch Manager for Wallet window.
  • If you have a Network Card, you will see the New Virtual Switch option on the left panel.
  • Select this option and click the Cancel option.

Step 3

  • Right-click your virtual machine and select the Settings option in the Hyper V-Manager window.

Step 4

  • Navigate to Hardware -> Add Hardware, select the Network Adapter option, and click the Add option.
  • The Network Adapter will appear on the main panel.

Step 5

  • Choose the New Virtual Switch option from the Virtual Switch drop-down menu and click the Apply option followed by the OK option.
  • Repeat the same to add multiple virtual network adapters using Hyper-V Manager.
  • Check if the virtual network adapter Windows 10 is added to your computer.

Procedure 2 – Using PowerShell

  • On the home screen of your Windows 10 computer, right-click the Start icon and choose the Windows PowerShell (admin) option.
  • This will launch the Administrator Windows PowerShell window.
  • Enter the ‘Add-VMNetworkAdapter-VMName svwdsg2-12r2 -SwitchName vSwitch -Name HotAdded -DeviceNaming On’ command without including the single quotes.
  • Note: This command works only in configuration versions 6.2 and above.
  • Wait until the entered command executes.
  • This will add the network adapter to the Windows 10 computer.
  • If you need to remove the network adapter, enter the ‘Remove-VMNetworkAdapter -VMName svwdsg2-12r2 -Name HotAdded’ command in the PowerShell window. And then add virtual network adapter Windows 10.
